Ramadhan Reflections #4

And verily this Ummah of yours is one Ummah and I am your Lord and Cherisher, therefore fear Me and no other.

TMQ: Surah Al-Mu’minoon (23:52)

The Arabic word Ummah denotes community or nation. The Islamic Ummah therefore are those who testify and believe in the oneness of Allah (ﷻ) and in His last and final Messenger Muhammad (ﷺ). Anybody who embraces Islam becomes part of this magnificent and noble Ummah and all the believers are brothers and sisters to one another.

You will not enter paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not guide you to something which if you carry out you will love one another? Spread salaam amongst yourselves.

Muslim

The Muslims are all equal in the sight of Allah (ﷻ), irrespective of their ethnicity, colour, gender or spoken language. An Arab is no better than a non Arab; a white person is no better than a black person. One’s status in the sight of Allah (ﷻ) is only raised by the level of their Taqwa. Alhamdhulillah, how just and merciful Allah (ﷻ) is and how grateful we should be!

You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Ma’ruf and forbid Al-Munkar, and you believe in Allah.

TMQ: Surah Al-E-Imran (3:110)

Allah (‎ﷻ) confers the loftiest of praise upon the Ummah of Muhammad (‎ﷺ) when he raised its rank above all other nations. Such praise can not of course be attributed on the basis of ‘believing’ alone and does not mean that we are a ‘chosen’ people as the Jews had believed – rather as Allah (‎ﷻ) explained this praise would only apply if we dispensed our responsibility to enjoin Al-Ma’ruf (call to all that Islam commands), forbid Al-Munkar (call people to refrain from all that Islam forbids) and in having Imaan. It is no surprise then that our fall from grace and spread of corruption coincided with our negligence in performing this duty.

Dear Muslims, reacquaint yourselves with your Lord and what He (‎ﷻ) requires from you. Through our inaction we permitted for the disbelieving nations led by the U.S. to lead humanity with the darkness of falsehood and spread her corruption. They succeeded in carving our Ummah in to over 50 secular nation states with the help of the Munafiqeen. Nothing remained sacred as they took our lives, honour and property. They continue to divide us by ethnicity, language and on a sectarian basis fostering indifference and hate.

O Ummah of Muhammad (‎ﷺ)! realise your destiny, refocus back on your Deen. Do not let your enemies embroil you in killing one another but unite together on the basis of Islam, showing mercy and love. Stand with your brother and look ahead. Realise that your salvation can only come through unity. So answer the call of your Lord and enjoin Al-Ma’ruf and forbid Al-Munkar. Let us work to remove the borders they placed between us and re-establish the Khilafah, let us regain control of our destiny, let us bring our enemies to justice, leading ourselves and humanity once more with the light of Islam!
